Ingrown Toenails
An ingrown toenail is one of the most common complaints among our patients. Typically the patient will complain of pain to one or both sides of a toenail. There also may be pain to the toe with tight, compressive shoe gear. Causes of ingrown toenails include fungal toenails and trauma to the nail.
Diagnosis is through a good clinical exam. Treatment involves removing the piece of nail with a simple permanent procedure where a chemical is used to prevent the nail from growing back. The toe is numbed with a small injection and then the procedure is performed. If an ingrown nail is not treated promptly, infection and pain may result.
