A fungal infection of the skin looks similar to very dry skin. Sometimes with fungus, however, small blisters may develop and the area may feel very itchy. The skin may also look red or irritated. Fungus thrives in moist, dark environments, and the feet provide the perfect place for fungus. Diagnosis is with a clinical exam and sometimes a small piece of skin will be sent to the lab for testing. Treatment is with a prescription cream, but if the fungus is severe, a pill may also be used for a short time. We will also educate you on how to properly care for your feet to prevent the fungal infection from returning.
